All four Utah Republicans in the House of Representatives shot down a Democratic push to investigate Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s use of the Signal secure messaging app.
The House Rules Committee quietly tucked a measure into a resolution that pauses “resolutions of inquiry” until Sept. 30. Those resolutions are a maneuver typically used by the minority party to force a vote on launching an investigation.
The provision, was part of a package of measures intended to roll back environmental regulations from the Biden administration. Utah Reps. Blake Moore, Celeste Maloy, Burgess Owens and Mike Kennedy all voted in favor of the measure which passed on a straight party-line vote.
None of Utah’s representatives responded to a request for comment from Utah Political Watch.
Hegseth is under fire for sharing sensitive and possibly classified information about military operations in Yemen in two Signal group chats. Hegseth allegedly shared detailed attack information with Trump administration officials and journalist Jeffrey Goldberg in one group chat. He also reportedly shared attack details in another chat that included his wife and brother.
Democrats had planned to force a vote on a measure demanding Hegseth turn over information about military operations in Yemen, as well as supply details on how classified information is handled at the Pentagon.
